Evynn's birth story

Hi Everyone, Natalie (aka Mama) here... Maslynn let me borrow her blog to document Evynn's birth story, so here goes:
Thursday, July 14th - saw Dr. Heckman and was dilated to 1.5 cm and 70% effaced. We discussed induction for the following Thursday, July 21st.
Friday, July 15th - went to work as a usual Friday. Tia had planned a department dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings that evening. Went and ate the hottest wings I could stand (hoping to induce labor).
Saturday, July 16th - 3:00 am, felt a painful contraction. I had been feeling Braxton Hicks contractions for about three weeks, but they were not painful nor progressive. At 4:00 am I had another contraction, at 5:00 am another, and beginning at 6:00 am I had contractions every 5 minutes until 7:00 am. At 7:00 am I decided to get up and move around to see if the contractions would slow, and they did. We put our house on the market in April, and had an open house scheduled for Saturday (7/16) from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. We cleaned house all morning then headed to Embee's house for a fish fry. We arrived at Embee's around 11:00 am and I was still having contractions, but they were between 15 and 20 minutes apart. I labored on the couch while Mae, Milo, Maslynn, Melanie and Mema played. Embee was having a fish fry party with friends from high school and we were waiting for Debbie to arrive. The busyness of the party kept me distracted from labor. Debbie arrived around 2:00 pm and brought the birth plan and several props. Later in the day she messaged my hands and feet focusing on pressure points to stimulate my contractions and offer comfort through labor. All the while Embee's party was happening around me. Around 6:00 pm we ate fish from the fry, and I must say it was the most delicious catfish I have ever tried. After dinner Aaron and I brought Maslynn home for her regular night-time routine. Melanie came to my house and around 8:00 pm we decided to head to Northpark to walk the mall. Debbie and Embee met us there and Dani joined us too. We walked and walked and climbed and climbed. A friend suggested that if I climbed stairs my water might break. There were no stairs to climb, so we climbed the escalators going round and round, up and down - the contractions were between 7 and 9 minutes apart while at the mall. Below is a photo.

Around 9:30 pm I became exhausted from the tiring day and we decided to head home. On the way we all stopped for gas, then reconvened at my house (Groveland). Once back at home, the contractions were about every 7 minutes and we were all exhausted. I wanted to go to bed and wanted to let Melanie, Embee and Debbie get some rest as I expected it would be a long night. After some discussion, everyone went home and I took a Benadryl and went to bed. I was able to rest (and even sleep a little) between contractions even though they were very painful. My ability to rest was made easier since no one was here (except Aaron). At about 12:30 am (July 17th) I felt a deep contraction and a lot of pressure, then suddenly my water broke while I was in bed. I got up, called for Aaron, and told him what happened. I got in the bath tub and called Dr. Heckman. I told him my water broke and he asked: "No doubt about it?" To which I answered: "NO DOUBT about it!!" He then told me I needed to head to the hospital to get checked. I asked him if I could take a shower first and he paused then said, "I guess so..."
I showered, got dressed, and the contractions started coming one on top of another. They were less than one minute apart and very intense and my body started shivering uncontrollably. I was scared. Melanie arrived to stay with Maslynn and we told Embee and Debbie to meet us at Baylor. We got in the car and Aaron drove beautifully! At one point I 'suggested' that he not ride in the right lane because of the gutter bumps in the road, and he politely moved to the left lane. Just when I thought I could not handle one more bump in the road, we were at the hospital. I walked into labor and delivery at 1:30 am. I had to stop several times to work through the contractions, but finally made it to the desk where they checked me in. The nurse took me to room #10, which was the very same room Maslynn was born in. That felt pretty special. The nurse asked if I was planning to have an epidural, to which I answered that I had not intended to have one, but I was second guessing my decision. Dr. Banks, the resident, came in and said she needed to check me. I told her that she could check me between contractions, but that she would have to be fast because I needed to stand up to work through each contraction. She checked me and I was dilated to 8 cm. I asked if that was too late for an epidural and she said "No, but I really think you are there." I stood up for my next contraction and Evynn's head was coming out. I felt the need to push and the nurses required that I get back in the bed for the delivery of the baby. They were trying to connect the fetal heart rate monitor my belly and get the blood pressure machine on my arm. I did not even have my identification bracelet on my wrist yet (at one point the nurse had Embee identify the information on the bracelet since AB and I were delivering this baby so quickly). I told the nurses that I would get in the bed, but that I would be on my hands and knees. And that is what I did. Embee and Debbie arrived and I told Debbie to talk to me. She stood by my head, holding my left hand and walked me through Evynn's delivery. Three contractions/pushes later, Evynn was out at 1:51 am (I was on my hands and knees and Dr. Heckman missed the whole thing). She was blue and not breathing so they rushed her to the baby table to get her system started. The NICU team came in and she was given oxygen. Within 1 minute she was breathing and I heard her sweet, dainty cry. Unfortunately Aaron did not get to cut the umbilical cord, nor did we get our cord blood collection kit in from the car. The delivery was so fast and furious that I later found out (a whole month later) that Evynn's clavicle was fractured at the time of birth. She is such a strong, sweet baby who weighed in at 8 lb 14 oz and was 21 inches long. I would not have been able to get through it without Debbie's calm instruction, Aaron's firm yet gentle pressure on my spine, and the comfort of knowing my mom (Embee) was in the room guarding us all with her generous spirit. After about 45 minutes, Aaron brought Evynn to me and we were able to begin our bond. I also must mention that the security of knowing Maslynn was well cared for by Melanie and Mema allowed for such peace of mind while at the hospital that I was immediately able to bond with sweet Evynn. So there it is, the documentation of the exciting birth of Evynn Margret Jane. I will continue to review this as I recall details, but this process was the most amazing thing I have ever done in my entire life. I am so thankful for my wonderful family and I will never forget this weekend in 2011. Happy Birthday Evynn Margret Jane Baerwaldt. You are loved dearly.

Long time, no type

Wow, it has been a long time since I have visited my blog to post updates. It has been a busy summer with my new baby sister. And with our house on the market to sell, my mom and dad have been super busy keeping things in order. I am going to let mom borrow my site here to write Evynn's birth story. Look for her post very soon. Also, more pictures to come as well. xo

Welcome baby sister Evynn!!

My baby sister, Evynn Margret Jane, was born early in the morning on July 17, 2011. I was at home fast asleep while mom and dad went to the hospital. Don't worry, they didn't leave me there alone, Aunt Melanie came to stay at my house with me over night. Sunday morning I woke up, ate breakfast, then went to the hospital to meet my new baby sister. I love her so much and giving her kisses is lots of fun. I also like to hold her and brush her hair. She is funny how she squirms and snuggles when I am close to her. I am looking forward to playing with her when she gets older. xoxo

Swim Lessons!

I have started swim lessons with Ms. Carol. She lives close to mamma's work and we go every day at 4:00 pm for two weeks. I like swim lessons and am learning how to jump in the pool, retrieve toys, go under water, and blow bubbles. My favorite song is the Wheels on the Bus when we are in the pool. I will try to get some pictures of myself at the next lesson. Mom had to ask Embee to take me to my lesson today because "baby sister" and the heat are wearing mom out. More to come soon.

My new art table!

I love my new arts and crafts table. Mom got it for me this weekend and it is just my size. I also got a box of art supplies with paper, crayons and other crafts so mom and I can make creative artwork after my baby sister comes home. Mom has a plan for us to do art together each day and I am looking forward to it. I already used my crayons to color yesterday. I also like sitting at the table when I watch Baby Signing Time. My new table is awesome!

My 1st Ice Cream Cone

I had my very first soft serve ice cream cone last Friday night. I went to Pasados for dinner with my cousins (Mae, Milo, Mack, Jack, Bodie & Zane). We celebrated Father's Day early with Grandpa Ro. It was a blast and this is a picture of me with my ice cream cone. It was yummy!!

Jenna & Barbara visit Nexus

The Bush twins came to see me at school yesterday. They spoke at the Nexus lunch fundraiser and they came to take a tour of my school before the event. I talked to them and they were nice and funny. Mom went to the luncheon and said that they did a good job speaking and raising awareness about Nexus. This gig is full of perks. xo

Happy Mother's Day MOM!

We had a fantastic mother's day at Embee's house. I went swimming in the hot tub, took a nap in the swing, and ate lots of delicious food! Daddy and I got flowers and a balloon for mommy today. Mom loves her new Olympus camera that daddy got for her for mother's day. She has already snapped over 500 pictures of me. The above picture was taken with mommy's new camera. Happy Mother's Day MOM! xo

Play Date at Lia's House

Sunday afternoon I had a play date at Lia's new(ish) house. She has been living there for a while, but this was my first time to see her new house. I really like it and we had a blast playing in her back yard. I can't wait to see my friends again.

I played with Lia and Kaylee (who shares my birthday with me). We had a great time and I really like Lia's cat.

Lost shoe... found shoe

Last night mommy and Embee went to the Just Between Friends sale and I stayed home with Mema and Daddy. At some point during the evening at home I lost my shoe. When mommy got home Mema mentioned it to her and she started looking for it. She could not find it anywhere and pondered on it all night long. When she woke up early this morning the lost shoe was still on her mind and she had a thought. She wondered if my shoe fell into the bathroom trash can while daddy was getting me ready for a bath. Daddy had already taken the trash out to the curb and the dump truck was down the street heading for our house. Mom popped out of bed and raced to the can on the curb and dumped out the bathroom trash daddy had taken out last night. And THERE, she found my shoe. I am so glad she rescued it because it would have been gone forever if she had not thought of it. The most amazing thing is that mommy wasn't even home when my shoe came off into the bathroom trash can. I think mommy has super powers :)

Fort Worth Zoo

Last week I went to the Fort Worth Zoo with mommy, Embee, Mae, Milo, Debra, Jordyn, Jaelyn and Hailey. We rode the Trinity Railway Express to Fort Worth and took the Safari Shuttle to the Zoo. It was so much fun and I loved seeing all of the animals. My favorite animal was the hippo!! They were under water when we saw them, but I love hippos so much I was glad to watch them swim around. It was a long day and we did not get home until almost 9:00 pm. I like staying up late after going to the zoo :)

I am BIGGER than...

Hi everyone, Maslynn here. I am posting today to let you know that I am BIGGER (as shown on my shirt) than my little SISTER!!! I am so excited that I will have a little baby to play with this summer and I cannot wait to meet her. The only problem is that Maslynn Josephine is THE ONLY girl name my parents can agree on. I hope they don't decide to make her a 2nd, or name her Josephine Maslynn. Anyway, I cannot wait to meet her in July. She is pretty adorable in the pictures we got today. I will post them soon. xo

My 1st Dental Appointment

I went to the dentist, Dr. Holly, for the first time yesterday. She had lots of stuffed animals with big teeth and a big toothbrush for me to play with. She talked to mom about brushing my teeth (at least twice a day) and using wipes to clean my gums every night. Her office is in the same building as Dr. Brown's office. I got a new tooth brush, a dentist duck, and some stickers. I really like Dr. Holly and will see her again in 6 months. I now have 6 teeth with more on the way.

MMM... Avocados!!

Mom says my baby sibling is the size of an avocado now. I love avocados! As a matter of fact, the very first food I ever ate was an avocado... yumm-O! Mom saw Dr. Heckman (I love that guy) yesterday and he said the baby's heartbeat is a strong 154 beats per minute. Just four more weeks until I find out if I will have a baby sister or baby brother. I can't wait!

BUBBLE STORM!!

I have been stuck in the house with mom and dad for almost two days now. The weather in Dallas is crazy. This morning it was 12 degrees outside!! Yesterday we read books, played with my toys, and watched baby Einstein. I also took a nap and ate some cozy, comfort food. My favorite part of the day was the bubble storm mom and dad created though. They both had bottles of bubbles and blew them around the room and I had a blast trying to catch and pop them. It was fun. I am looking forward to going back to school though. Mom and dad are fun, but I miss my friends in Ms. Shane's class. Hopefully school will be open tomorrow.

Me laughing in my new car seat!

I had so much fun with my Embee this weekend. She got my very own car seat for her car and I just love it. It is pink with brown polka dots and so comfy to ride in. This video is me laughing with mom while she plays peek-a-boo. I love it when mom makes me laugh!! xo

Picture of my little sister... or brother

This is the most recent picture of my little sister... or brother (but I think it's a girl)! Can you see how long its legs are? I can't wait to meet my baby sibling this summer. Mom's next visit to the doctor is February 7th, then in March we get to find out if it's my little sister or little brother. I can't wait!

I'm going to be a big sister!

So, I have big news. In July I will become a big sister. I have been trying to upload the latest pictures of my little sibling, but cannot convert the file. I will figure it out soon and put the photos up. I am very excited to meet my new sibling this summer, but in the mean time mom, dad and I are spending lots of time together before the baby comes. The big events that I have coming up in the next few weeks are my first dentist visit, a play date with Kennedie and a Valentine's party at school. I am having so much fun! xo
